Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of equipment do you use?
I shoot with a Nikon Z6II mirrorless professional camera. I primarily use my Nikkor 24mm-70mm zoom lens, and my 50mm and 105mm macro prime lenses. ("Prime" just means that they don't zoom in and out.)
I also have a variety of backdrops that I use to replicate different surfaces, such as distressed wood, marble countertops, and stone or cement.
Do you offer sponsored posts?
I do! I'm happy to create a photo of your product and post it on my own Instagram page as a sponsored post. The sponsored post rate can be added on to any other photo creation requests.
Can I send you some inspiration photos so you know what vibe I'm looking for?
Absolutely! Most of my clients find it helpful to create a Pinterest board of inspiration photos and then invite me to collaborate on the board. You can find me on Pinterest @risajamesphotography.
Will you create a recipe for me?
I certainly can! I like to shoot a combination of classic cocktails and new inventions of my own.
Why doesn't your website have any prices on it?
My pricing varies depending on what type of photos you're looking for, what type of business you have, and what you want to use the photos for. Photos for print (like in magazines or physical advertising) are more expensive than photos that will only be used in digital media (like websites and social media channels).
Pricing is mostly done on a per-shoot basis, with the licensing fee for the images built into the shooting fee. I like to talk (or email) with all prospective clients first to get an idea of what they need before providing a price quote.
Do I get to have the copyright to your photos?
Generally, no. My licensing agreement gives you specific rights to use the photos in defined ways. Those rights and uses are worked out during our consultation call. I retain the copyright in all photos and retain the right to use them for my own purposes, but you can use them in all the ways outlined in the licensing agreement. If you wanted to acquire the copyright, we could discuss it, but it would cost you a lot of money!
