If you saw last week's post, you know that I did a series of fig cocktails recently and want to share all the figgy goodness with you. Last week's recipe also called for Black Mission figs, so if you get your hands on some, you can try both recipes and see which one you like better!
For this one, I took a classic gin & tonic and just added figs to it. Easy peasy.
FG&T (pronounced "Figged")
2 oz. Tanqueray gin
2 oz. Fever-Tree Aromatic tonic water
1 dash Peychaud's bitters
3 Black Mission figs
Slice figs in half lengthwise. Place 3 fig halves in the bottom of a shaker with the gin and bitters. Muddle the figs until they are crushed. Fill shaker 3/4 full with ice and shake 30 seconds. Strain into rocks glass over a large ice cube. (Double-strain through a fine-mesh sieve if you don't want fig pieces in your drink.) Top with aromatic tonic water and garnish with remaining fig half.
The aromatic tonic water and Peychaud's bitters are necessary to get the lovely pink color in this drink. You can substitute regular tonic water and any other bitters if you like, but your drink won't turn out as pink.
Note: if you have enough figs, slice a few and place slices in the glass with the large ice cube before you pour in the contents of the shaker.
