Unless you're in a news blackout (and let's be honest, I wouldn't blame you if you were), you probably have heard about the latest round of California wildfires. I live in Sacramento, and while we're not usually in immediate danger from the fires themselves, we do get a lot of the side effects: smoke, falling ash, bad air quality, etc.
One night when things were particularly bad, the sun was blood red and was casting very weird orange-red light into our house during sunset. So I did what comes naturally to me, and I made an appropriate cocktail and took photos of it!
Fire in the Sky
2 oz. Woodford Reserve rye whiskey
1/4 oz. Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur
1/2 oz. Royal Rose Three Chile syrup
1/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker 3/4 full with ice. Shake to chill, then strain into a coupe. Garnish with a thin slice of fresh ginger.
