It's 2020. Thanksgiving is going to look a little different this year. No large family gatherings of people from around the country. No pot-luck Friendsgivings. But that doesn't mean Thanksgiving can't still be festive. This cocktail brings together some of the classic flavors of Thanksgiving (no, I didn't put turkey in it) to get you in the mood for cooking, baking, or just sitting in front of the fireplace.
I made this with Broken Shed vodka, which is distilled in New Zealand. You can find Broken Shed on drizzly.com, or sub in your favorite vodka.
HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS
2 oz. vodka
3/4 oz. cranberry juice
1/2 oz. cinnamon-clove simple syrup
1/4 oz. orange curaçao
1 dash orange bitters
Blood orange seltzer
Combine all ingredients except seltzer in a cocktail shaker over ice. Shake then strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube. Top with seltzer and garnish with a sprig of fresh rosemary and a cinnamon stick. If you have time, freeze a few fresh cranberries into your ice cubes beforehand. If not, just toss a few fresh cranberries in the drink as additional garnish.
To make cinnamon-clove simple syrup, dissolve 1 cup sugar in 1 cup hot water. Add 2 cinnamon sticks and 10 whole cloves. Let steep 30 minutes then strain out solids. Store in a glass bottle in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
