One of my favorite things about Instagram is the ability to connect with other cocktail enthusiasts and share recipes and inspiration. This recipe was created by my friend Corrie, who blogs at Girl & Tonic and whose Instagram handle is @girlandtonic_
She named it the Golden Pothos, after her favorite plant (which is apparently also known as Devil's Ivy, which is a bad-ass name for a cocktail). I, however, have been totally mis-calling it Golden Porthos, as in one of the Three Musketeers, lol. It just goes to show that I know nothing about plants.
Corrie's original recipe was made with vodka, but then she re-made it with gin and liked it even more! That's the version I have listed below. The type of turmeric you use has a huge influence on the final color. Corrie used dried turmeric, and her drink was yellow (hence the "golden" of the title). I used a turmeric extract that I have, which is quite vibrant orange, so my drink turned out orange. Your results may vary!
GOLDEN POTHOS
1 1/2 oz. gin
1/2 oz. orange liqueur
3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz. cardamom simple syrup (I used Boozy Botanicals)
pinch of turmeric (I used half a dropper of my tincture)
2 drops cardamom bitters (I used The Bitter Housewife)
tonic water
Combine all ingredients except tonic water in a cocktail shaker. Fill 3/4 full with ice, shake well for 20 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube. Top with tonic water and garnish with a dehydrated citrus wheel.
